Product Management Product Success Metrics Question: measuring ixigo Trip Mode

Introduction

When ixigo relaunched its app as "AI-native" in May 2026, one of the headline features was Trip Mode. Trip Mode brings the in-journey essentials into one screen: boarding passes, terminal and gate details, boarding information and baggage belt updates, with real-time alerts and recommendations during the journey. It works alongside TARA, ixigo's AI assistant, and background agents that send boarding passes to WhatsApp, add them to Apple Wallet and Google Wallet, share documents with Digi Yatra and monitor flight schedules.

Trip Mode is a post-booking product. It doesn't sell anything directly, so its success must be measured differently from booking features. The challenge is to show that it creates real value for travellers and for ixigo (through loyalty, lower support costs and cross-sell) without turning into a notification machine.

Framework Overview

Product context, goals, North Star and its breakdown, supporting metrics, guardrails, trade-offs, counter metrics, then strategic initiatives.

Step 1

Product Context

Key stakeholders:

  • Travellers: Want a stress-free journey with the right information at the right time.
  • ixigo: Wants loyalty, fewer support contacts, and opportunities to help with cabs, hotels and return trips.
  • Airlines and airports: Provide schedule, gate and baggage data.
  • Partners: Lounge operators, cab providers and hotels for in-journey recommendations.

User flow:

  1. A user books a flight on ixigo (or adds a trip).
  2. Trip Mode activates ahead of the journey: web check-in reminders, boarding pass ready.
  3. On the day: leave-home time, terminal, gate, boarding time, delay alerts.
  4. After landing: baggage belt, cab options, hotel check-in details.
  5. TARA answers questions along the way ("Is my flight on time?", "Where is lounge access in T2?").

Why it matters to ixigo: travellers spend far more time in the app on the day of travel than at booking, but most OTAs go quiet after payment. A useful companion on travel day builds the habit that brings users back for the next trip, and makes cabs, hotels and return bookings natural next steps rather than ads.

Product lifecycle stage: Introduction. Trip Mode launched recently, so early metrics should focus on adoption, accuracy and usefulness.

Competitive context: Airline apps show their own flights; Google and some OTAs show status. Cleartrip launched Live Flight Status in 2026. Trip Mode's difference is bringing the whole journey (and multiple modes) into one place with an AI assistant.
