Introduction
AtherStack is the software platform that runs on Ather Energy's scooters, the Ather app and the cloud behind them. Ather has always pitched itself as a software-first two-wheeler company, and at Community Day 2025 it unveiled AtherStack 7.0, which it called its biggest software upgrade yet. The headline features were voice-based interaction and AI-driven rider assistance, delivered over the air and made backward compatible with the Rizta Z and 450X back to Gen 3.
The question: how would you measure the success of AtherStack 7.0's voice and AI features? This is tricky because the product lives on a moving vehicle. Engagement is not automatically good: a feature that makes riders look at the screen more could be a safety problem. I'll set context, define goals, pick a North Star, then layer supporting, guardrail, trade-off and counter metrics.
Context, goals, North Star, breakdown, supporting metrics, guardrails, trade-offs, counter metrics. For in-vehicle software, put safety guardrails at the same level of importance as the North Star.

What AtherStack 7.0's voice and AI layer does (as described at launch and in our working assumptions):
- Voice commands for navigation, calls, music and vehicle information ("How much range do I have?"), so riders keep hands on the handlebar.
- AI rider assistance, such as contextual alerts and suggestions (for example, range warnings, ride mode suggestions and hazard-related prompts).
- Delivered by OTA to eligible scooters: newer 450 and Rizta Z models, plus older 450X units back to Gen 3.
Users:
- Daily commuters in dense traffic who want hands-free control.
- Enthusiast 450 owners who care about features and share them online.
- Rizta family riders who may be less tech-forward.
Business context:
- Software features justify Ather's price premium over TVS iQube, Bajaj Chetak and Ola Electric.
- Paid software and connectivity (such as the Pro Pack) are a recurring revenue lever.
- Backward compatibility builds loyalty among existing owners and protects resale value.
