FAQs

Find answers to common questions about this course and preparing for HackerOne-focused product interviews.

HackerOne PMs uniquely bridge the worlds of ethical hacking and enterprise security. You'll be working on products that directly impact global cybersecurity, requiring a blend of technical security knowledge, community management, and strategic product thinking that few other PM roles demand.

While a background in cybersecurity is highly valuable, it's not strictly required. We look for candidates with strong product skills who demonstrate a passion for security and the ability to quickly learn complex technical concepts. However, you should be prepared to rapidly immerse yourself in the security ecosystem if hired.

HackerOne PMs need to be more technically inclined than the average PM. You should be comfortable reading code, understanding basic security concepts, and discussing vulnerabilities with both hackers and security engineers. While you won't be expected to hack or code, a deep technical curiosity is essential.

Balancing the needs of our two primary user groups – ethical hackers and enterprise clients – can be challenging. You'll often need to make decisions that satisfy security requirements while also maintaining a positive user experience for our hacker community. This requires strong diplomacy skills and the ability to find creative solutions to complex problems.

We offer a robust development program for our PMs, including: Mentorship from senior security professionals Opportunities to attend and speak at major security conferences Internal bug bounty programs to gain hands-on hacking experience Rotation programs to work on different aspects of our platform Leadership training for those on a management track
