Product Management Metrics Question: measuring credit on UPI success for Jupiter Edge+

Introduction

The Edge+ CSB Bank RuPay credit card can be linked to UPI inside the Jupiter app, so users can pay at any merchant QR code on credit and earn rewards. This turns a credit card into something used many times a day at kirana stores, cafés and auto stands, not just for online shopping. Measuring the success of this feature means looking beyond "number of cards" to how often credit on UPI becomes the default way people pay, while keeping repayment healthy. I'll follow a structured framework covering product context, goals, a North Star Metric, supporting, guardrail, trade-off and counter metrics.

Framework Overview

I'll follow a simple success metrics framework covering product context, goals, and a success metrics hierarchy from the North Star down to counter metrics.

Step 1

Product Context

Edge+ is a co-branded RuPay credit card issued by CSB Bank and distributed through Jupiter. Because RuPay credit cards can be linked to UPI, Edge+ users can scan any merchant QR and pay from their credit line. Rewards come as Jewels or cashback based on spend category, and Jupiter has said rewards apply on eligible spends made through Jupiter's own UPI flows.

Key stakeholders:

  • Users: Want convenience, rewards and an interest-free credit period on everyday spends.
  • Jupiter: Earns a share of interchange and other card economics, and uses the card to deepen engagement.
  • CSB Bank: Issuer; owns credit risk, limits and compliance.
  • NPCI and merchants: Run the rails; small merchants can accept credit without a card machine.

User flow:

  1. User is approved for Edge+ in the Jupiter app.
  2. User links the card to UPI and sets a UPI PIN.
  3. User scans a merchant QR and chooses Edge+ as the payment source.
  4. Rewards are credited; the spend appears on the card statement.
  5. User repays the bill, ideally in full, through auto-pay or manually.

Jupiter reported crossing 150,000 Edge CSB Bank cards in 2025, with users averaging around 24 transactions a month, which suggests UPI is already a strong driver of frequency.

Product Lifecycle Stage: Growth. The card is established, the UPI link is the main differentiator, and the focus is scaling usage and the user base while protecting credit quality.

Software-specific context:

  • Platform: Android and iOS app.
  • Integration points: CSB Bank's card management system, NPCI UPI rails, Jupiter rewards engine.
  • Deployment: Frequent app releases; issuer-side changes move more slowly.
