Introduction
Ather Energy's promise to owners has always been that the scooter gets better after you buy it. Over-the-air (OTA) updates have added features to 450 and Rizta scooters for years, and AtherStack 7.0 was announced as backward compatible with the Rizta Z and the 450X back to Gen 3. But every new release reopens the same question. Supporting older hardware costs engineering time, limits what features can do, and removes one reason for owners to upgrade. Cutting it off risks angering the loyal early owners who built Ather's reputation.
The question: should Ather ship its next major AtherStack features to older scooters (such as Gen 3 450X units), or reserve them for new models to drive upgrades? This is a hard trade-off between loyalty and installed-base value on one side, and focus, feature depth and new-vehicle sales on the other.
Avoid an all-or-nothing answer. Break features into tiers, then decide per tier using data on cost, owner value and upgrade behaviour.

Clarifying Questions (3 minutes)
- Assumption: Gen 3 and earlier 450X units are about 25% of active connected Ather scooters, concentrated in Bengaluru, Chennai, Pune and Hyderabad.
- Impact: A sizeable, vocal and loyal group.
- Assumption: Advanced voice commands, AI-based ride suggestions, a richer navigation UI and improved range estimation.
- Assumption: Older dashboards have less memory and processing power; voice needs a microphone path that some older units handle poorly.
- Assumption: When some features were limited to newer models, community forums and social media showed significant frustration.
- Assumption: Roughly 20% of the platform team's QA and engineering time goes into testing on older hardware.
