Product Management Product Design Question: no-code HR AI assistant builder on Wipro's Lab45 AI platform

Introduction

In June 2024, Wipro's innovation lab, Lab45, made the Lab45 AI platform available to all Wipro employees and clients. Delivered as SaaS, it supports multiple large language models and offers no-code and low-code apps for functions such as HR, sales, marketing and operations, plus API access for developers. The question asks me to design a no-code experience on the platform that lets HR teams build their own AI assistants, such as a leave-policy bot, an onboarding buddy or an interview-question generator, without engineering help. I'll clarify the scope, explain why this matters for Wipro, segment users, prioritise pain points, propose a solution and define success metrics.

Tip

HR data is among the most sensitive in any company: salaries, health information, performance ratings. In this design, safety and access control are part of the core experience, not a later add-on. Say so early.

Step 1

Clarify Questions (3 minutes)

  • Who is the customer: Wipro's own HR team or client HR teams?

  • Why it matters: Internal use is a pilot; clients are the commercial opportunity.
  • Hypothetical answer: Start with Wipro HR (about 2.3 lakh employees), then package for clients.
  • Impact: The design must scale to a very large, global workforce from day one.
  • What kinds of assistants are in scope?

  • Why it matters: Answering questions from documents is simpler than taking actions in HR systems.
  • Hypothetical answer: Knowledge assistants (policies, benefits, onboarding) and drafting assistants (job descriptions, offer letters). Actions in HR systems are phase two.
  • Impact: MVP focuses on retrieval-augmented question answering and drafting.
  • What systems hold HR knowledge?

  • Hypothetical answer: Policy PDFs on SharePoint, a Workday-style HRMS, intranet pages and ticketing tools.
  • Impact: Connectors are needed for common document stores.
  • What does success mean?

  • Hypothetical answer: HR teams launch useful assistants within days, and employees resolve common queries without raising tickets.
  • Impact: North star combines builder speed and employee query resolution.

Propose the Goal

Enable HR business partners and HR operations teams to build, test and publish safe AI assistants on the Lab45 AI platform in under a day, so employees get accurate answers instantly and HR teams spend less time on repetitive queries.

Define the Scope

In scope: assistant builder, knowledge connectors, testing, access controls, publishing to Teams and the intranet, analytics. Out of scope: payroll actions, performance ratings, and custom model training.
