Introduction
Ather Energy built a premium brand. The 450 series made it the enthusiast's electric scooter, and the Rizta, launched in April 2024, opened up family buyers and became Ather's volume engine. By mid-2026 Ather was India's third-largest electric two-wheeler maker, with roughly 15% market share in July 2026 registrations, and in Q1 FY27 it reported revenue of about ₹1,217 crore with its first positive EBITDA in a first quarter.
The next phase is harder. TVS iQube and Bajaj Chetak dominate volumes with legacy dealer networks, Ola Electric competes on price, and Hero MotoCorp's Vida is pushing into the mass market. Ather's answer is the EL platform, a new low-cost architecture unveiled at Community Day 2025, built to spawn several scooters (family, commuter and performance) with a first model planned for 2026 and production at its new plant in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (Aurangabad), Maharashtra.
The question: how should Ather use the EL platform to win the mass market over the next three years without diluting its premium brand?

Clarify the Strategic Goals (3-4 minutes)
- Assumption: Profitable growth. Ather is listed (IPO in 2025) and investors now expect margin discipline.
- Impact: We cannot win by discounting alone.
- Assumption: Scooters around ₹1 lakh ex-showroom, competing with the TVS Jupiter and Honda Activa in petrol as well as entry e-scooters.
- Impact: Every rupee of bill of materials matters.
- Assumption: The board prefers the Ather brand, with clear naming.
- Assumption: Aurangabad plant capacity is ramping; battery cell costs are falling; PM E-DRIVE subsidies are declining over time.
In strategy questions, confirm the objective function first. "Volume at any cost" and "profitable volume" lead to very different answers.
